Bereavement Services – St Catherine’s Hospice

PRE AND POST BEREAVEMENT SERVICES OFFERED

Counselling

St Catherine’s provide pre and post bereavement counselling to people who have a lost a loved one known to hospice services. They offer a service to bereaved people six weeks following a bereavement. They prefer if the pre or post bereaved refer themselves to the service. Likewise, they accept referrals from Hospice Staff and external professionals.

Compassionate Communities

Compassionate Communities approach is a part of the care they offer and helps people and communities in Central Lancashire to help themselves and each other, through palliative or end of life care and bereavement.

Bereavement Support Groups

St Catherine’s bereavement support groups are held every second Wednesday of the month 1.30pm – 3.00pm and every third Thursday of the month 6.00pm – 7.30pm. These groups are held at the hospice and are open to all who are bereaved and those attending do not have to have a connection to the hospice. They are facilitated by the Support Team.

The hospice also supports bereavement cafes – which are informal groups where anyone can go and chat, have a brew and talk to others about their loss, whether their loved one has died recently or some time ago:

Talkin’ Tables

This is an initiative supported by a host of businesses including St Catherine’s, where people can talk in a safe space with other people experiencing loss and loneliness. There are a wide range of venues across the Preston and Chorley area:

There is also a dedicated webpage on their website that details bereavement support resources across Preston, South Ribble and Chorley:

Currently they do not provide counselling for bereaved children at St Catherine’s but they work closely with Vine House, Preston who do provide a service and they refer to their service
